Any busses from Luganville to Port Orly?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu
Hi Does anyone know if there are any buses going from Luganville to Port Orly at around midday? I've heard of a but at 5pm, but maybe there are other busses earlier? How long does it take for a bus to get to Port Orly? Is it doable to get off the bus to see the blue holes and then catch another bus bound for Port Orly a couple of hours later? What do yoou think? Thanks
Buses? Well, you may have to settle for a truck... ;-) | 1
There is no such thing as a regular scheduled service bus anywhere in Vanuatu. You will be sitting in the back of a truck. Look for a small truck ( about 2 tonne size ) with a red " PT " on its number plate. They leave from the town market in the afternoon to take shoppers home. Go to the market and ask around or look for a group of women standing by the roadside. The trucks also stop outside the Unity Store. I don't know the official fare but it would be about 500. Offer the driver of a regular bus 2000 to take you up there. He'll probably take it. | 2
I caught a bus from the Unity Store to Lonnoc. It takes workers from Luganville back to Hog Harbour in the afternoon. I seem to think there might be a 'regular' bus or truck to Port Olry in the afternoon - might be the same one. I found that we showed up at the Unity Store, asked a few questions and the locals seemed to work everything out for us, making sure the bus stopped for us and we got on. You could probably get a regular bus to drop you off at a blue hole and then try your luck afterwards and get a ride with whoever might go past. All a bit vague, but rides seem to just happen if you are prepared to wait around and go on detours and adventures. People seem to organise stuff for you if you let them know what you want. Don't do it on a Sunday. There's very little activity or options on a Sunday. | 3
