boat transfer

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

hi guys,

is it possible to get a boat transfer from port vila to tanna island? cant find anything about it so i guess not! just double checking here..
also if anyone can reccomed a good, cheap motel around port vila?

thanks!

Yeh, several boats do that route. One of them is called Southern Star. The official price was 6000 vatu but I had no trouble getting it down to 4000. Just go down to PP Wharf in Port Vila and ask about boats going to Tanna. If there are none there, try Government Wharf or Main Wharf.

For cheap accommodation around Port Vila, I liked Room with a View - such a good deal including a big hot breakfast.

Southern Star goes once a week to Tanna, takes about 18 hours, very rough seas. There are 2 or 3 other boats that go every week too. Just ask at the dock when you arrive.

Cheap accommodation in Port Vila - Treestops Lodge. 2000 per night including eat all you can breakfast. 1000 per night if you bring your own tent and camp in it, and u still get the breakfast.
