Boats to Nguna/Pele/Emao

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi all,

Hoping you can help me with some logistical questions. I will be renting a car and driving over to the north side of Efate. My first question is if you can recommend a place to stay around Emua, Paonangisu or similar? The next day I would like to catch a boat over to either Nguna or Pele and stay overnight there. However, as I have a flight out of Port Vila the next day, I need to make sure that there is a boat back to Efate in the morning. So my second question is: do you know what time the boats leave either Nguna or Pele to go back to Efate? Are they fairly reliable, or will I get delayed due to 'island time'? Usually I wouldn't mind, but I have to be back in Port Vila by about 11am to make my flight.

Thanks!

Hi , stayed on Nguna in 08 , boat back to Efate was supposed to leave at 6.30 am, but actually left at 5.30 am. Don't know if this is normal.Stayed at Vat Vaka, maybe better options. Pele looked interesting.

There is a slightly later boat that takes children from Nguna to school on Efate. Ask the Nguna children when you get there or ask the guy who takes you from Emua out to Nguna. The 5.30 am boat would be taking men to work. Hoping to make Vila airport by 11am is possible but mighty risky. The whole "island time" thing aint no lie.
