buying antibiotics in Vanuatu

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

hi guys

do you need a prescription to buy antibiotics in Vanuatu? If not, can you be sure you are not just getting panadol or something? thanks, J.

Go to the pharmacy in the main street of Vila - yellow building with big green doors. You will not need a prescription provided what you order is not addictive. Dalacin C works for me.

J_traveller it all depends pn what kinds of antibiotics you want and usually panadol you get it without doctors prescription!

thanks for your responses world_t (we share the same surname long lost bro). It's usually amoxycillin (very standard antibiotics) or I may need metronidazole on occasions (or to keep for the next time I need it at home). I have some amoxycillin to take away, i guess i will try for metronidazole there should I need it but more the amocy which I already have. Any idea about metronidazole/tinidazole in vanuatu?

We went to the pharmacy in the main street of Santo, they had nothing. So we went up the road to the hospital and they gave us a packet of amoxycillin without prescription - no problems.
