DOMESTI FLY IN VANUATUCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu
Hallo everybody, just looking on www.vanuatuair.com domestic section, I've seen there are only four destionations where you can book a domestic fly: Espiritu Santu, Longana, Tanna and of course Port Vila. What about other islands? i.e.: Ambae, Pentecost or Malekula... Is there another domestic airline? I've found nothing on the web... Thanx for help Luka
Their route map still shows the entire network - maybe they just don't let you make you book less popular flights in advance as those are more likely to be changed or cancelled? | 1
You can't make reservations because bad weather causes many flights to be cancelled. Last summer Sola was cut off for weeks by rain which turned the grass airfield into a bog. Your chances are much better in winter ( May - October ) when there is less rain. When you get to Vila ask at the Air Vanuatu office which airports are open. Be flexible with your dates because most of the small airports only see one or two flights per week. The Air Vanuatu office is one block up the hill from the one way section of the main street near the police station. Santo has daily flights and an all weather airport. | 2
i've taken flights to ambae, malekula and pentecost, dont know if you can book them in advance though. I booked them all on the same day that i flew, it was very easy | 3
I totally agree with the last post. We were able to book a flight for the following day even at peak season immediately before Christmas. Actually, they were VERY flexible, since they put an additional plane on schedule (which filled fast). It was a flight from Port Vila to Epi island (definitely recommend this almost unvisited island), and busier routes should be even easier. Good luck! | 4
