highlights of vanuatu

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi,

i have recently been planning a trip to vanuatu but i have been trouble deciding where to go and stay. there are so many options and different islands.
we would like to travel around a bit and stay in not to crowded places in small simple bungalows. we were escpecially looking forward to the snorkelling and swimming.
we were also wondering if it would be a good idea to not book and just stay somewhere local.

any help would be muchly appreciated, escpecially on the best islands

I'd rate Santo as the single best outer island, it offers pretty much everything.

The other most popular island is Tanna, but it's way down in the opposite direction from Vila.

Islands like Malekula and Ambrym could be interesting stopovers between Vila and Santo.

I agree, for a first trip Santo is ideal. You can get off the 'beaten track' pretty quickly.
