Me and a friend stayed at Vila Hibiscus for 4 days in May 2009 and it was very cheap, but you did get what you paid for. The staff were lovely and very accomodating, and so were all the other guests. We were the only non-melanesian guests staying there, which was really a bonus. Aside from that the hotel was dirty, the kitchen was small and very grimey with cochroaches and lots of millipedes for some reason? These were everywhere, including plenty in the room. Although we were travelling on a budget in a relatively poor and developing nation so none of this bothered us too much, but I just mention it in case people planning on staying there were expecting anything resembling European style hotels.

On the other hand we also stayed at a place called Blue Pango Village, which was brillant and great value for money. Their own swimming pool, private beach and each room had twin/triple beds and a kitchenette. For about 6500 VT I think from memory. Its about 25mins walk from central Vila but we loved it there especially as its a great place to meet the incredibly friendly locals. We ended up having drinks at teh local kava bar with the locals who were brillant and hospitable.
