Iririki Island Resort

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi,

Looking for a honeymoon destination and Vanuatu has piqued my interest. Trying at this stage to ascertain whether Iririki Island Resort is any good or not. I can tell that it is quite expensive, which is fine, but you want to be sure that you are getting what is being advertised.

I was reading tripadvisor.com which had some very good reviews but also some absolute shockers......

Anyone have any straight forward first hand experience. Or perhaps other suggestions....

We are basically looking for somewhere nice - good pool, good food, nice beach, snorkelling, close to town is good. Just want to relax really and have a bit of a look around.

Cheers,

Well I haven't actually stayed there but i have been to Port Vila many times and I can answer a couple of your questions ... The resort has great pools and it is close to town ... it is on a small island in the harbour right opposite the town , there is a small boat that runs you to and from, 24 hours a day .. the island is 200 metres offshore from the centre of Port Vila. i spent the day on the island in Feb , swimming in their pools , they were renovating some of the old original buidlings but that would be finished by now.

Vanuatu is great but another suggestion for a honeymoon destination would have to be the Cook Islands especially the island of Aitutaki ...a prefect honeymoon location on one of the worlds most beautiful lagoons.

My partner and I stayed at Iririki about four weeks ago, and would go back tomorrow if possible. It was really good. Most guests were either honeymooners or empty nesters. No kids allowed.
I read the reviews on tripadvisor.com before going also, and yes, the screen door did run off its track, but rather globally demonize the resort on the internet, I simply put it back. The staff were always more than helpful and the food at Mitchener's was truly first class.

I hope this is of some help.

Cheers

I was on Irriki before the new units were added and I can tell you that the small island was really crowded with buildings even then. It was and is an upmarket resort, very close to town and surrounded by beautiful water. A peaceful remote place it is not.

A recent program on Australia's Getaway Television program said that Iririki is no longer just for adults - they now have kids programs, etc. Go to Getaway and type Iririki into the search box on the left.

Add to that all the new apartments built on the far side of the island, just behind the resort... I'd definitely opt for another island resort around Vila, like Erakor or Hideaway.
