Mosquito nets

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

I'm going to Vanuatu in a couple of weeks (March 2007). I'm wondering whether I should pack a mosquito net or do most places have them already? I expect I'll be staying in very basic accommodation.

Thanks.

it depends what type of accomodation you'll be staying in. all the big resorts will have netted windows. most of the smaller ones will have as well but maybe not in pristine condition. i was in vanuatu for 4 months staying in some more remote places so my mosquito net was essential, more to keep the rats and bugs off me than anything else! i guess the best advice would be to take it just in case-its only going to take up a small space in your luggage.

I was in Vanuatu last April/May on several outer islands, staying in local bungalows etc. Most places had nets, & in the few that didn't I found the silk sleeping bag liner I had was adequate if there were mozzies around although they were not really much of an issue where we were (Tanna, Malekula, Santo, Pentecost,Efate/Nguna), but we may just have been lucky.
