Mt Yasur tours from Port Vila

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi,
I will be staying in Port Vila for 5 nights later this month and would like to do a tour to Mt Yasur.
Apart from Unity Airlines are there any other companies that do day tours to Yasur and possibly include a twilight/night time flyover like Unity does? I have already booked accom in Vila and therefore can't do a overnight Yasur tour.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi,

If remember correctly there are no night flights from Tanna to Port Vila. So if you're taking a day trip you will only see the volcano at daylight. Although it's an impressive sight at any time of the day it's definitely after dark when it really kicks in. Think about watching fireworks at day or time night, the difference is pretty close to that. I would strongly recommend staying overnight in Tanna even if it means paying double accommodation. You'll have far, far, more rewarding trip that way. Cheers!

From my investigations Unity are the only one to do it.
The y do an overnight tour so you can stay on Tanna and see the Volcano at night and a scenic overflight at dusk.
The response from Discount Rentals which is the shop front for Unity is woefull at best and the only way to get a decent response is to call them direct.

It's not worth going for a day trip. The Volcano is amazing but it is best at night. It is also a long trip from the Airport. Stay at least 1 night and enjoy it.

HI Just returned from Vanuatu today. You certainly would be wasting your money if you only went to Tanna to see the Volcano during the day. After coming back from Santo We decided to forsake our first night at a beautiful resort ( our first ever)!!! to stay at treetops bungalows at shark bay. We certainly didnt regret it!! Near the market there is a group of Travel agents on the same side of the main road. We spoke to Gordon and two hours later after deciding to go we were on the plane to Tanna, picked up by a great guy called Samuel, driven through villages over very rough roads for 2 hours before arriving at the volcano just on dusk. An impressive sight. After many many photos we were taken to Treetops, food was waiting and so was a clean comfortable bed. If no one else is there you may be able to sleep in the tree house built 15m up in a huge Bunyan tree. Excellent. Next morning We had enough time to explore shark bay and do some good snorking out the front before lunch and heading back over the 4wd track to the airport. We only wished we could have stayed longer. I have Treetops email if anyone is interested.
Vanuatu certainly was a surprise packet for us, so much to do and see- great diving and excellent snorking everywhere- so easy getting around ( we didnt do cargo boats to islands though) and the people fabulous. Allow extra money for food however.
Ps There is so much to see and do that I didnt even have time to sit around the pool the few days we had at the resort and enjoy the luxury! C'est la vie.
