Noda Guest house,Pentecost IslandCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu
This post was written May 2012(I forgot to put it on then!).However, the details and prices(to some extent)remain unchanged. I stayed at Noda Guesthouse in Waterfall Village for 4 nights. Waterfall was possibly the highlight of my trip to Vanuatu. It is run by Silas and his wife Vignet. The cook is Jocelyn. As Silas was not going to be on the island while I was there, he was anxious that I was well looked after. I couldn’t have been better looked after; On arrival at the island I was met by the village’s chief ,Isaiah, and felt very honoured by this. The guesthouse is really nice and clean. The food was plentiful and very tasty . The room rate was 3,000 vatu per night including all meals.(Like everywhere in Vanuatu ,prices are very flexible)and this was great value. The transfer from/to Lonoroe airport was 2,000 total for one vehicle one-way. Transport is one of the most expensive costs on the Islands ,being remote, fuel/diesel is very expensive. There was so much to do in the Waterfall area and most tours cost 800 vatu. I strongly recommend that people visiting don’t buy package tours before going to the island; it will cost you more overall, and most importantly, less money goes to the locals and into their community. I was very lucky to have spent time with Chief Isaiah, and learnt so much from him, and the villagers , about their life.Silas is keen to have tourists come and stay in the wet season. As a few creeks have to be crossed to get to the village, transfers in the wet season may have to be made by boat after heavy rainfall. The transfer fee then would be 4000 vatu, but I’m sure Silas would be flexible with room rates if the transfer fee becomes prohibitive. Possible advantages about being there in the wet season are an even more impressive waterfall, the colours of the landscape are even more vibrant and you are likely to have the guesthouse to yourself.(There were still vacancies part of the time I was there in May).Silas has 2 cell ph. Nos.;7727394 and 5478071 .Web-site www.pentecostisland.net
