Please give an opinion on a Dive Operator in Vila

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi LPérs,

Will be in Port Vila next month and I am looking forward to diving. I appreciate that the better diving is off Port Vila but due to family cant do that.
Any suggestions for operators out of Vila would be appreciated. Early research has turned up Big Blue or Nautilis? I am an Open Water diver with around 30 under the belt. I am proficient and I plan to do about 6 dives- possibly also a night dive. I am wanting some variety and some adventure.

Thanks for any assitance.

big blue was absolutely horrible. they did not check our certifications, did not give us more than a 1 min briefing about the dive site (star of russia), on the dive itself the guide swam away from us and did not care about us much at all. one of the worst dive operators i've ever seen.

i have not done anything with nautilus (their dive shop was up a hill, and i was too lazy to walk)

my favourite in Port Vila is Tranquillity Island Resort Diving. They got a shop in town on the main road and I have dived with them both times i was in Port Vila. Both times they were great! They pick you up from your hotel, then you get brought to tranquility island (you can see the turtle sanctuary if you want) and do your dives. Lunch is included and the BBQ was really good. it was 120$ for 2 dives (lunch and equipment included). The wreck dive there was quite nice as well but completly different to the star of russia

Thanks onemorecountry. Certainly not a compelling case for Big Blue. Thanks for the view on Tranquility.
