Do you still need a postcard from Vanuatu? | 3

damn u r right | 7 | |
Aunty Beeb brought the whole site down for several weeks over Christmas, completely cut out the PM function and is adamant that it will not come back, cut out a couple of other branches from the TT, has not and now will not upload any more archived messages (like mine, my post count is way off the markl I didn't even get all my PMs back; it's viewing only now), and has generally brought the Tree to a its knees as there are still many bugs to be fixed. Have a look at the Community FAQS branch .... | 8
so what do u mean? | 9 | |
The PM function has been removed, permanently. Unless, of course, the new owners of LP decide to change this, but no-one is holding out any hope of that. Which means we can no longer send or receive messages here, a horrendous inconvenience! Also, we cannot add e-mail links in our profiles, so we cannot exchange e-mails. There is a way to get around that, though ... have a look at my profile. | 10
why there are such strict rules? | 11
It's a totally new policy that came about when the BBC shut Thorntree down over Christmas, and kept it down for several weeks. When they brought it back up (with so many glitches it still isn't working properly) they had eliminated Private Messages along with the Womens' branch and the Your Choice branch. Just about everyone who uses this forum was livid (and most are still extremely angry). Read some of the ranting posts about this, along with other glitches, in the Community FAQs branch. At least now they are not monitoring every single post made as they did for a while after bringing the Tree back to life. There's also a lot more censoring of 'dubious' posts now as well. A huge number of regular TT users have left the site, some for good, and gone to other forums, but none match what LP used to be. LP was sold by the Australian owners to the BBC, and it was the BBC who put these insane policies into effect. Now it's been sold to an American owner, but I think BBC is still maintaining the site (very badly). It's sort of the demise of the Tree. | 12
thanks watsoff for all hte info, i didnt know there was a kind of business behind it. | 13
Pity, I was going to Solomon Islands and Vanuatu this year, but have had to cancel. My post count has also been deleted, down from over 2000 to 428. I think the vast majority of users have lost respect and patience with this forum, but unfortunately it is still the best on the net. Best laid out anyway, not the best to use because the PM function has been instrumental to so many of us when travelling. They deleted the link to my non-commercial website as well, they are not allowing us to post links to our personal websites. Good luck with your postcard search! | 14
Yes can help you out - we are staying at hideaway island for a couple of nights and are sending some postcards from the underwater post office there. If you search megaadventures on facebook you can contact me through there with details. | 15
