Single 30 something guy seeks natures path

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

I often travel to India and Nepal and recently decided on my first trip to Vanuatu. I have one month and fly into Vila mid June.
I've read a lot of posts which have been helpful.. but would really appreciate some advice for ME.
I just want to relax for a few days when I get there and get a feel for the place, since i'm there for 1 month i dont want to spend much on accom, but need a laid back place where i can explore vila from. Can u recommend?
I love NATURE, HORTICULTURE, quiet beaches/no children, and learning about local culture from locals, i like to find a special place and just settle - main things i want to avoid are young families and loud tourists.
I'm thinking Santo and Banks but worried about getting to Banks being too difficult...
Also after a while i'm sure id want to meet a few other travellers to share stories... so please, any advice on accomodation, beaches, forests/walks, swimming holes, places to settle, farms to visit etc
Thanks!

I don't think you need to spend much time exploring Vila, especially with your interests. Stay in town a day, then get to the outer islands.

The Banks can be easy to get to IF you can afford to fly.
But even if not, you will find pretty much all outer islands VERY quiet, with few other tourists - in fact you may not get to meet "a few other travellers to share stories" even when you'd like to!
No shortage of opportunities to learn about the culture from friendly locals though, and nature and traditional gardens (rather than farms in the western sense) are everywhere, too.

I think you will find it hard to satisfy your wish for "no children" anywhere in Melanesia, where the population bulges under the age of 15.
If you visit villages, you are likely to be surrounded by them.

I don't know if you have already checked the SP FAQ at the top of the page, but Naguna Island (Mandja's thread) might be what you are initially looking for. Lizardo22 has has a post there that might be helpful.

Thanks to all, even the one with the fixation on the children issue.
I think I'll head to Tanna and then down to mystery island and then up to Santo and then...and then .. and then

Hi there,

this is a bit of a late reply to your message, but my girlfriend and I were wondering how you got on in Vanuatu? We have both spent quite a lot of time in Nepal and India and are about to book flights to Vanuatu for a month in late september. Your post made us laugh - especially the comments about children fixations!

We would be interested to know whether your experience of Vanuatu was good enough to recommend it to like-minded souls! We're deciding between returning to the Himalayas or heading to the Pacific. Any thoughts?

We're after a bit more than beautiful beaches. Advice would be much appreciated. We are indecisive peoples!

thanks. :)
