Tanna - Things to see and do?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu
Hi guys, I have just spent some time reading everyones posts about Vanuatu and have found that everyone seems to rave about Tanna Island. I am looking at going to Vanuatu and am thinking about a visit to Tanna. But what I'm wondering is......what is so amazing about Tanna? I have read about the volcano which sounds wonderful but is there anything else to see and do there? Everyone seems to just say how great it is but not mention what exactly is so great if you know what I mean. So please if anyone can share their Tanna highlights that would be great. Thank you :-)
I didn't even bother with the volcano - had seen plenty, bigger, better, less commercialized ones before. | 1
It's not touristy, so is largely unspoilt. The locals are genuinely friendly and happy to see you. I stayed at White Grass resort which I think is the most upmarket of places to stay, but it was still quite basic in a charming way. I felt like I was staying on Gilligan's Island. I loved the feeling of being so remote from the rest of the world. | 2
Echo what was said about the people--they are wonderful. It was worth going for that reason alone. I did enjoy the volcano too. Tanna is definitely worth a visit, I hope to take my children there someday. I did not actually enjoy visiting the kastom village. They were friendly but it was just my wife and I visiting and we felt a bit awkward being the center of attention. But I think we hold a minority opinion about it. | 3
