Thoughts on proposed Vanuatu trip

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi all,

I'm thinking of surprising my wife with a trip to Vanuatu in June. Probably about 7-10 days. I'm thinking splitting my time between Port Vila/Efate and Tanna. We're pretty laid back, hippie types, into bushwalking, etc. Are there any recommendations people can make?

In particular, I'm keen to hear ideas about accomm in Vila. We're not much into resorts, and would prefer something "local" or family run, clean, etc. I'm guessing that in the city would be useful, but am keen to hear opinions. Are there any small boutiquey bungalow-style places in the city, or am I better off looking elsewhere on Efate??? Any ideas???

Thanks heaps for your help!
Luke.

Just outside of the main town on Pango road (almost opposite Erakor island if you have a map) is Blue Pango Resort. It isn't really a resort, but is about 8 self contained bedsits around a small pool and right on the coast. It is cheap for Vila (about $50.night) and has no restaurant/bar but your room has a fridge & cooker. Low key and quiet. I stayed there a year ago and liked it - and I used to live in Vila for 4 years so know what you get for your money.
