Travel agencies in Vanuatu (and much more..)

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hello!

Yess!! :-) Finally I have put together airline tickets for my Vanuatu trip in March/April 2008. (Oslo-London-Hong Kong-Brisbane-Vila - and return. 11 days just for the transport leg!!)

I will be staying in Vanuatu for 22 days. (23 nights) I already have decided to visit Efate (obviously), Tanna, Espiritu Santo (Lonnoc Beach Bungalows, Port Olry and Luganville etc), Pentcost (hopefully for the Nagol) and maybe one more island?...

1) Any recommendations for a reliable and accessible (by internet) local travel agent for arranging inter-island flights and accom. on less visited islands? (It will be easter +nagol. For that reason I presume it is safer to book everything in advance?...)

2) I am leaving Vanuatu on Monday April 07. If I am lucky that should be just in time to experience the first genuine land-divng in 2008?... (As I understand, it mostly occures on Saturdays)
What would You recommend? Day trip from Vila or a couple of nights in Pentecost (Nagol Bungalows in Salap or other...)

3) I will be visiting during easter. How does easter afflict vistitors. (Shops, restaurants, transport, excursions etc....)

4) IF I decide to visit a fifth island, any realistic recommendations? At the moment I am contemplating Ambrym or Maewo. I am looking for natural beauty, easy/moderate hiking, snorkelling, kajaking and meeting local people.

5) ANY other insider tips? "Secrets", special guesthouses/hotels, favourite places - anything?....
Every tip is highly appreciated!

Regards
eflatjan

PS! Will be spending 4 days in Brisbane. Any recommendations for day trips out of the city?...

Hi, Eflatjan,
I had a quick look at your website and saw that you hadn't been south of Brisbane on your visits to Australia.
I recommend you get a shuttle bus south to Byron Bay and spend a couple of nights exploring the lbeaches and the hinterland. Look at Byron Bay website for an idea of what you could do.
I drove a friend from Canberra through the hinterland yesterday, and had a great time.

Menawhile, the only helpful comment about Vanuatu is that practically everything will be closed from Good Friday to Easter Sunday - they are a very Christian country. However, resorts etc will operate as usual.

Hello Helen! (Ozziegiraffe)

Thank You for Your tip. Byron Bay is not a bad idea at all!

Took a quick look at your website too. Looks like You are the person to ask WHEN (not if) I'll be going to the Solomon Islands some time in the future! S.I. is high on my "whislist".
Lau Lagoon seems like a beautiful and interesting place.

Regards
