travel from vanuatu

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

hello everyone. i will soon be moving to vanuatu to serve in the peace corps. im hoping to use my vacation time to travel to china (beijing and shanghai), indonesia, japan, cambodia, new zealand, and vietnam. however, i looked into flights and most of them seem very expensive. does anyone have any advice on how to get to these places relatively cheaply? thank you so much. paz

For China, fly to Hong Kong via Nadi on Air Pacific.
To NZ there are several options.
To Indonesia and SE Asia in general, your best bet is probably flying to AU on Pacific Blue and then onwards on Air Asia or Jetstar. Or combine them with the China trip.
Of course any way you look at it, flights won't be cheap - that's the South Pacific!

The only large airports accessible from Vanuatu are Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland. You will have to fly through one of them.

okay. is there a cheap way to get to those airports?

thanks laszlo. i would also be willing to travel by boat if its cheaper. do you know anything about that?

The only country you can travel to by passenger boat is New Caledonia.
Otherwise you'd need to go on a cruise ship or yacht.

Pacific Blue offers relatrively cheap flights between Australia and Vanuatu. From Australia ou can fly to most places. Check out where Air Asia flies out of Australia.
