Vanuatu - 2 Weeks in August - Which Islands?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi, I am travelling to Vanuatu in August for 2 weeks; so far I have just the flights to Villa, but nothing else. From the advice already posted, it seems that the consensus is that Efate is not the most interesting island. As I only have 2 weeks on the islands, and really don't want to spend every other day in an airport, can anyone suggest which island(s) would be most worth seeing? I will be travelling with my partner, we are definitely not looking for luxury hotels and to lie on beaches all day etc. and want to make the most of this once in a life time trip. We would ideally like to be able to explore the islands, snorkel / dive, possibly find a berth on a boat for a few days etc.. open minds really, just want to get the most out of the trip. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

Efate is great and there is lots to see and do , so don't be put off...... its just more developed than the other islands
Whereas Tanna is much less developed and an amazing place and well worth a visit , and then if you like diving then Santo is the place and it has some beautiful beaches like Champayne and Lonnoc.
I have only been to these three.

I think Santo is the single most interesting island, being so big, diverse, and fairly accessible by road.
Tanna would be a close second, followed by Malekula and Ambrym.

Tanna & Malekula were my favourites. Nguna (off the N.coast of Efate) was good for a couple of days too. You might like to see photos on my website. Click below.

I liked Santo too. You could probably squeeze in a quick visit to Tanna if the volcano interests you. My favourite was Gaua, but not really possible in 2 weeks with time for other things.

I am looking to travel to vanuatu in august for one week, perhaps two. i'm really intrigued by gaua, but realise that it will take most of the holiday to visit. Is it worth the trip, although it may mean that I will miss many other islands. The plan would be to travel straight from Port Vila to Santo, from which we'll get a return flight to Gaua, then back to Port Vila. With flight connections, is might mean: 1-2 night Port Vila, 4 nights Gaua, 4-5 nights Santo.

Any ideas?
