Vanuatu for a girl backpacker

Vanuatu is on my wish list, and since I'll be arriving to the Pacific this year, I thought I might try to get there.
Is it safe destination for a woman backpacker on her own? Is it easy to meet other backpackers around to travel with?
Any ideas about what budget I will be needing (without diving)?

Recommendation for hostels/cheap accomodation will be appriciate as well. Thanks!

It's been a long time since I've been to Vanuatu so I can't comment on accommodation, etc., but as far as safety for a solo female, I found it to be one of the safest places to travel alone. As are most of the South Pacific nations.

When I spent about one month in Vanuatu, I met a total of one other backpacker.
If you need them, better head for Fiji.

It will be nice to have company, but I won't head to another country just for that. Vanuatu interest me much more than Fiji.

It is a safe destination and you can perfectly be around on your own! I found it more interesting than fiji, especially places like Ambrym, but thats so weird for a western people i suppose i can be a bit strange, but very interesting!!!

I'm on my way to Vanuatu tomorrow and I've been researching quite a bit and have made a few bookings already. Considering Tanna Island and Espiritu Santo, the accomodation prices start at 1000 Vatu for camping, 2000-3000 for dorms beds (sometimes including breakfast) and simple bungalows with private facilities from 3000-5000 Vatu. What seems to be quite expensive is transport to the more remote locations and of course tours that you would book online. Don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like more information! I've been to Samoa and Fiji on previous journeys and I am really excited to go to Vanuatu now!
