Vanuatu weather in January/February?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hi all,
My boyfriend and I are wondering about a short (1-2 week) holiday to Vanuatu. Due to uni holidays and flight specials it looks like we would have to go sometime between Jan 15 and Feb 20 next year. I know the weather is not ideal then - can anyone elaborate? Heat? High humidity? Main concern is rain - would we expect it every day and is it an all day kind of thing or more in bursts? Also wondering if the end of Jan is better than early Feb or vice versa, or is it much of a muchness?

Your help is much appreciated!

Cheers
Lola

Hmmm

I believe you will never see so much rain in your life. This is high wet season and Vanuatu is wet, muggy and extremely humid. When you arrive it will hit you like a wall.....

.... however never mind. When it rains it pours and when its sunny its will most likely rain some more :) But thats life over there and never let the rain spoil things. Contrary to what people think Vanuatu is not the 'beach' paradise like Taihiti, Thailand and that ilk, it is more of a cultural adventure type experience. Never let rain hold you back - and you'll want to swim when its raining anyway!

As for the cargo ship - it will potentially take a large chunk out of your 2 week holiday, and during this time of year, cylones are common. Dont rely on it and make sure you verify the forcast when you get on.

Enjoy your trip and make sure you get out of Vila .... and find yourself a Nakamal in the middle of nowhere - I would recommend 21 Jump Street near Wan Smol Bag

have fun
