Vegetarian food Port Vila?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hello, I am planning on a holiday in Port Vila and wondering if you can get vego food? Thanks :)

there's not a massive variety but you certainly won't starve! I met a vegetarian tourist when I was there and they had no trouble finding suitable food

If you are staying at a resort and eating there you wont have a problem. The markets also have the local food and you will find loads of vegies and fruit there. If you want to eat the local cooked food, "Lap Lap and Tuluk" they all have meat in them. They are basically tarot with coconut, meat and spinach in the centre. You can also tell the locals in pigeon that you can't eat meat --"Mi no save kai kai meat!" The local pubs and restaurants won't have problems understanding English. Happy holidays in paradise!

There is a huge market in the centre of town where you can buy the best tropical fruit you have ever eaten at bargain prices. Everything fresh and everything organic. Regrettably, it is seasonal produce only.

Hawkers at the market sell vegetable and rice meals.
