village stays in TannaCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu
Hi All, We are planning to spend 6-7 days in Tanna in October 2012. We are interested in staying in a local village for 3-4 days, hanging out with the people and experiencing their village life. We don't mind basic conditions, having done similar things in other parts of the world. From my research, I see there are a few villages that are visited on tours, but ideally we wanted to get off the beaten track as much as possible. A number of questions: Thanks in advance
I saw some europeans did it, so I do not think there is any problem doing it. I saw it at Lounelapen Village and Sulfur Bay Village. Sulfur Bay would be good as you can have the opportunity to visit the Volcanu by night and the people are more friendly. | 1
Gidday There! If U stay at any of the bungalows over at Port Resolution you will be near to next to or in a village and can walk around and talk to the people all day!! They are very friendly and great to be with! The Port Resolution area is a low key scenic place to with plenty to do!! Try Tanna Island Dream Bungalows with Sam and Nancy or Rocky Island bunglaows. There hare several others there as well. There will be other tourists but it is authenic village life!! This type of stay can be done in many places in Vanuatu. To really get off the beaten track you may have to stay as OP recommends or do the cross Malekula trek or go to West Santo. Have Fun! | 2
