Volcanic Earth Tours

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

has anyone used this tour group? I want to go with them to see the volcano but as i am a female travelling alone I just want to know if they are ok. thanks.

They are in the 2007 Vanuatu phone book but not last years so they might be new. I live here and have not heard of them before but that doesn't mean much.

A few friends of ours have gone to Tanna, stayed at Friendly Bungalows, been up and seen the volcano go bang and loved every minute.
If you go with Air Vanuatu and flash your international ticket they give you a discount to fly to Tanna. You should be able to book it all through your travel agent before you get here, or, if you are unbelievably patient, book it here and it will be cheaper. Make sure it isn't school holidays. Seems every kid in the world wants to see the horror on their parents face when a red hot rock the size of a dozer gets blasted five hundred feet skywards just in front of them.

Friendly bungalows is a ramshackle affair that looks like it is falling down. That said, it has wonderful beds, great local staff, good food, is very close to the volcano (you might thank me for that when everyone else has a 2 hour late night, back of the 4WD trip home on rough tracks after walking up to the volcano) and they are cheap.

Take your own alcohol or enjoy the soft drinks.
