Walking across Ambrym

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

Hey Olgeta,

Just wanting some more information about walking on Ambrym across the caldera.

I'm hearing mixed reports about the difficulty of the walk up - some say hard, others say pretty easy.
Is it a technical walk with a lot of scrambling/climbing/manouvers, or more of a hard slog? Wondering if April will also be still hot?
Can anyone recommend specific guides out of the north?

Just a hardish slog over loose soil.
Certainly nothing technical!
I found it easy to go up and down in a day.

I went with Edwin/Ra from Ranvetlam, and can recommend him highly.

If you want some assistance try getting in touch with Abel and Cathy Nako from Trek Vanuatu. Abel is originally from Ambrym and they regularly organise trips and guides from their office in Vila for all over the outer islands. +6787750628

They used to have a website but it seems to have lapsed. Give them a call and see what they can do for you, they are very professional and great people.
