I,m in vauatu for 4 days staying in Port Vila
It will be close but it would be possible to do it. I had a look at my journal and noted that we left Evergreen Bungalows - about a 5 minute drive from the airport - at 2:30 pm and arrived at the volcano around 5 pm. We made a couple of stops along the way to see things our driver wanted to include. If you have someone ready to collect you at the airport and drove straight through you should arrive before dark. It was still light when we arrived and it was about 6:30pm when we started back. I can't help you with the costs as we booked a tour through Melanesian Tours for accommodation and tours. Evergreen Bungalows was really nice - they are on the web so you could have a look at their costs. They were very good with e-mailing information. Hope this helps. | 1
Take into consideration that after heavy rains, the road from the airport to Yasur could be impassable for days. I stayed for 3 days at Evergreen in march 08. I had to wait until the 3rd day before the road was opened. Because of the bad roads the trip down to Yasur took about 3-3.5 hours. (one short stop included) eflatjan | 2
Thanx for the info.I,m in Vanuatu only for 4 days for a wedding and yasur sounds awesome but the connections could be risky.I can get a flight arriving in tanna at 8am leaving next day back to Vila at 9am which seems doable,so I have to decide on the rain factor | 3
April is in the transition periode between the hot and humid summer and the drier, cooler winter and heavy rainfall is less likely than in march. But stil a possibility. I visited Tanna mid march and had hardly no rain at all those three days. But the week before my arrival had been really terrible with huge amont of rain and wind - allmost of hurricane proportions. That said, Yasur really is an awsome experience and I definitively would go for it even if short of time. eflatjan | 4
