Getting to Futuna?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Wallis and Futuna Islands

LP guidebook mentions that Aircalin flies from Wallis to Futuna twice a day, 5 days a week. Is this still a case? I can't find any info on its website.

Thanks.

All I know is that recent 'weather events' have kicked the merde out of facilities there-maybe Laszlo has some more recent info.

It certainly was flying between the 2 islands when I checked ca 3 months ago - in fact it has long been the only way to get to Futuna.
Indeed, Futuna is now missing from the list of destinations on their website though - may just be an error?
If you check their route map under "Flying with Aircalin", it still shows the Wallis-Futuna flight.
The better explanation would be if the long-awaited Wallis-Futuna boat service had happened to suddenly materialize! ;-)

I was flying from Wallis to Futuna and back last August.
The flights were every day, once or twice a day.
There was no information on these flights on Aircalin website, but you can get this information by e-mail from Aircalin representatives (they are listed on the website).

Note that these flights get sometimes cancelled because of wind (sometimes the airplane, a Twin Otter, will turn back in mid-flight), so plan accordingly. There may be further delays because of weight restrictions, so you may have to wait for the next flight.

As it turns out (Sept 2011), the weight restrictions are real (Futunanians tend to be very heavy people...), but in most cases they will just add a second flight in order to accomodate for extra passengers who could not join the first flight. The system works very well, and everybody is very helpful.
